completely packed and four hours to kill before I needed to leave for the airport. I think this might be a start to a new me – one that can pack her entire life for three months in to a 50L backpack and didn’t get too stressed doing so – although possibly thanks to Leah’s packing guidance because I don’t think I’m a fully fledged functional adult yet.
The first flight was fantastic, the Etihad plane was fancy as fuck and the lovely air hostess moved me from the already great bulkhead to a whole free aisle of my own so I could ‘spread my legs’. My layover, despite assurance that my wheelchair would be coming back to me, was fairly stressful. I sat on the plane for 30m whilst they tried to locate it. It was only tagged to Abu Dhabi so if I didn’t get it back it was ultimately ending up doing a lonely waltz on the baggage carousel and I’d be without it in Bangkok. The second flight was almost completely empty so I got a four seater row to myself and slept like a baby. I can’t believe how little pain I was in by the time I got here.
Steph was predictably late picking me up. I kind of hoped the chances were higher with Lisa here but instead I waited awkwardly with the assistance man for 30m who seemed pretty keen to help me to his friend’s taxi. ‘My friend is over here.’ ‘Well good but I’m looking for my friends!’
The evening was uneventful, we went out for some street seafood that tasted like coronation chicken and celery (the one vegetable I cannot stand) but I ate it anyway, along with a pineapple slushy with thai whisky added. Yes that’s right.
Lisa showed me her new ‘when in Thailand’ Lionel tattoo, featured here next to the tattoo I DIYed on Steph a year or so back. Let’s hope we remain friends whilst travelling because my nickname is on her butt got life. I have told Steph I am NOT getting a tattoo out here and she’s not to try and convince me otherwise!
